Encouraging comeback -
15-Feb-2010The New Zealand Grand Prix has turned out to be a successful comeback to motor racing for Sam.
Third, Fourth and Seventh place in the three races left Sam fourth overall for the weekend and pleased with his overall effort.
“It was great to be back. I really enjoyed driving again, although I really notice my lack of fitness having been out of the car for so long.
It was a little bit nerve racking when my very first practice was wet, but I managed to navigate my way through that and didn’t look back. I had no real goals for the weekend other than to have fun, but to be as close to the pace as I was and have the overall result that I did was a real bonus.
I really enjoyed working with the team of guys I was given and think we couldn’t have gone much better given the circumstances.”
The next round of the championship is at Taupo, a track that Sam qualified on pole at last year. Whether he competes will depend on sponsors: “It would be great to be there and build on Manfeild, but I have to be mindful too that I am still getting over the Hamilton thing so I don’t want to get ahead of myself.”
